Public Safety & Crime Reduction

Safe Streets, Strong Neighborhoods

The Public Safety Challenge

While overall violent crime has decreased in San Bernardino and the city is experiencing its lowest rates in years, violence and property damage remain much higher than the national average. San Bernardino is still often referred to as one of the nation’s most dangerous cities.

It’s time to change that narrative and portray San Bernardino as the “Safety First City” with “Safe Streets, Strong Neighborhoods.”

Amy's Goal

San Bernardino needs a comprehensive approach to public safety that goes beyond enforcement—one that builds trust between police and community, prevents crime before it happens, and creates environments where families feel genuinely safe.

Amy's Experience

Protecting Our Children: A Principal for a Day Story

In 2025, Amy had the opportunity to participate in the San Bernardino Unified School District’s Principal for a Day program. She was assigned to Arrowhead Elementary School and partnered with an incredible leader, Principal Dr. Felecia Noel.

That experience changed her.

Dr. Noel spoke to Amy about the challenges many of her students face every single day—not just in the classroom, but before they even arrive at school. She then drove Amy along the route that many of her students walk to get to school.

Amy was stunned.

These children were walking through areas impacted by gang activity, illegal behavior, drugs, and homelessness, just to get to class.

“If a child does not feel safe getting to school, how can we expect them to feel safe learning, dreaming, and planning for their future?”

Protecting our children must be a top priority in this city.

That is why Amy’s public safety plan focuses on bridging the gap between community and law enforcement. When residents, schools, nonprofits, and police work together, we don’t just reduce crime—we build trust and stability.

We need leaders like Principal Noel, community advocates, parents, and law enforcement working together to protect our children and strengthen our neighborhoods.

Because public safety isn’t just about enforcement—it’s about creating environments where children can walk to school without fear and families can thrive with dignity.

Amy's Commitment to San Bernardino

As a leader, I stand against violence of any kind. And while San Bernardino is safer today than it has been in the past, we all know there is still much work to do.

I stand with the San Bernardino Police Department in the fight against violence, and I am committed to working in partnership with law enforcement, community organizations, and residents to strengthen safety across our city.

My goal is to have a city that is a safe place for men and women to raise their families without fear.

Together, strong and united, we can stand against domestic violence and violence of any kind. We can create safer, stronger neighborhoods for every family.
